Dollar Store Fall Wreath

This wreath cost less than $3. 

I love the fall colors.

Super simple to make.

Gather your supplies:

Wreath ($1)

Leaves (package was $1 and I used just a small amount of the package)

Flower ($1)

Ribbon (less than $1 and I only used a small amount!)

The great thing about this wreath is that I had it on my door all summer with pretty flowers on it. 

I took them off (and saved them of course!) and reused the wreath!

Anyway, I decorated it with orange ribbon, and hot glued the leaves on to the wreath. 

So quick and easy!

Next I attached the bright orange flower which I found in the floral section of the craft store.  I love how it clips on and I LOVE the color! It just screams FALL!

Mommy Made It!

I started sewing because of my daughter.  I wanted to make her cute clothes too wear.  This was the first dress I made her and I posted about it here.

I thought it was pretty cute but she never wore it.  Oh well.

My second dress was more of a success.

She loved it and wore it a lot.  I learned a lot with this dress (how to hem!) and she pretty much wore it out! I need to redo the seam.  I used my grandmother's vintage sewing machine to make both of these dresses and really old thread so I'm not suprised the seam came out.

I was given a wonderful Mother's Day gift of a brand new sewing machine and bought myself thread.  Things have gotten much better since.

I'm still making a lot of mistakes but I'm getting better at fixing them, measuring, using the right tools and taking my time. 

I'm really enjoying sewing for my kids.  I love it when someone compliments them on what they are wearing and my kids can say, "Mommy made it!"

I am not a seamstress and I make a lot of mistakes.  I loved making this dress but it was truly a labor of love.

First it started as a sundress.  I started it back in July and didn't measure Annabelle but used another one of her dresses as a guide. 

It was way too small!

She was pretty dissapointed because she loved the fabric. 

I bought the shirt at Kohl's and new exactly what I was going to do with it.

Here I am pinning the skirt portion to the shirt portion. 

But Wait...This is the wrong way to do it!

But I didn't realize it until it was too late!

Yep, I sewed it on wrong! You know what that means!

SEAM RIPPER!

Ripping this seam is what took the most time!

I almost gave it up! All those little stitches. UGH!!

(sidenote: I made another dress for Annabelle and I did the same thing...sewed the fabric on wrong. You think I would have learned.)

I then redid the whole thing and I was finally happy with the results.

Look at that face! I think she is too!

I'll post about the second dress another time.  She hasn't worn it yet but she was thrilled when I showed it to her.  But I did totally mess up the second dress in the exact same way as the first!

Actually two dresses for Annabelle! I know as part of the challenge I am supposed to sew for an hour a day.  But, I work full time and really never have time to sew (or cut, or measure, etc) until the weekend. So, all the work done on these dresses was completed over two days and each took me an hour or two. 

Actually, the first dress took a whole lot longer but the second dress was super fast!

Here's the first:

This is a fairly simple idea that I've seen everywhere so I'm not going to bore you with a tutorial about it.  You can find better ones out there!

Basically, I wanted to make her a couple long-sleeve dresses.  This girl loves dress and refuses to wear anything else.  Last year I was dressing her in sundresses in October with t-shirts and pants.  So this year I thought I would make her a couple of dresses using a shirt and sewing a skirt to it.  I'm sure you've seen this around right?

Here it is before I hemmed it.  She loves it!

On my TO MAKE list

1. Upcycled Boys Hats from I am Momma-Hear Me Roar. Love them! Dashiell has a thing for hats. Great tutorial too! I am pretty sure I can make them! Can't wait to start.

2. Quiet Book templates from Oopsey Daisey.  I would love to have something to give to the kids when we are at the doctor's or in a restaurant.  These are great!

3. Itsy Bitsy Spider Shirt from Aly & Ash.  These would be great for Halloween.  A friend of mine made an awesome shirt based on an illustration from Charlotte's Web.  What a great idea for Halloween!

4. Time to start thinking about Christmas!? I think these Felt Flower Ornament from Under the Table and Dreaming would look beautiful on Christmas gifts.

5. Finally, all those ribbons I bought the other day have been sitting out and Annabelle really likes one of them. I saw somewhere on some blog about making ribbon headbands with the help of an elastic band and I can't find it anywhere! If you have any idea what I'm talking about let me know! Oh, and I need to finish a dress for her and hopefully start another one!

I guess I won't be cleaning this weekend!



A Couple of Things

Hi! How are you? I'm exhausted! I was tag teamed last night by my two little monsters.  Annabelle has been coughing for what seems like weeks and Dashiell had an upset tummy yesterday. 
So when one was sleeping the other was calling for Mommy!
Rough night!

Today is my Birthday....

...I'll craft if I want to!

Yesterday I spent the day alone without the kids or husband.

Just me.

It was really nice.

Oh, I forgot about my friends Joann and Michael!

Because I spent the morning at the crafts stores stocking up!

I love the remnants you can get at Joann's! That black fabric has cupcakes on it! Cupcakes! I am hoping to turn it into a dress for Annabelle! Stay tuned!

Oh, and a bright orange flower! I'll show you what I did with that soon!

I spent the rest of the day crafting! I glued. I sewed. I made a mess!

Perfect way to spend my birthday!

I'm really going to try this time

 
I signed up last time and started a dress for Annabelle that I never finished.  I remember it well.  It was a horrible week (or two) of sicknesses all around.  I wrote about it here.

 
Hopefully, I'll be able to do a better job this time and get something accomplished.  Annabelle won't wear anything but dresses so she is in desperate need of some Fall/Winter dresses. 
 
Any ideas?

Last Featured Flower Post

This is the last featured flower post and I actually don't have a flower to feature.
